Image Analysis BIF users have access to a wide array of image processing and analysis options. You can load your images onto networked Mac or PC computer workstations by cd/dvd, USB or Firewire drives, or by scanning hard copy media (slides, negatives, or prints) with our large format Umax PowerLook 2100 XL flatbed scanner. Industry-standard imaging programs, such as the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat) are available to our users. These programs can be used for image processing, illustrations, photo placement in manuscripts, and the construction and designing of posters. To extract quantitative data, our users have access to image analysis software such as ImageJ, MetaMorph, and ImageProPlus. Routine measurements (length, area, perimeter, et cetera), automated particle/object counting, intensity/brightness mapping, segmentation, and thresholding images are all possible with these software packages. Volocity 3.6, a cross-platform modular program, is also available to deal with more complex image analysis applications. Volocity is capable of deconvolving (removing haze from) stacks of images captured on either the confocal or widefield fluorescences systems. In addition, Volocity can render 3D- or 4D-models, track particle/organelle movement through stacks, and make automated measurements. |
