Smart Aging Matters: August 2005
The Medicare Prescription Drug Improvement and Modernization Act established new insurance coverage for prescription drugs, called Medicare Part D. Coverage will begin on January 1, 2006.

Located inside Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the Health Learning Center is a health information library that patients, their families and members of the community can use to find information on health issues and care. There are on-line resources as well as books, journals, and audio and video tapes. All services are free of charge.

The Wellness Institute
The Wellness Institute provides services, such as exercise classes, nutrition planning, and weight management, for people who would like to take an active part in their health and wellness.

The Family Institute at Northwestern University is the Midwest's oldest and largest center devoted to marital and family therapy, professional education and research. Their focus is to strengthen and heal families through clinical treatment, teaching, and research.

The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization for people age 50 and over.
Suburban Area Agency on Aging
The Suburban Area Agency on Aging "plan[s], advocate[s], coordinate[s] and fund[s] services for older persons in suburban Cook County, Illinois."
Illinois Department on Aging
"The Illinois Department on Aging helps older people live independently in their own homes and communities." The Department provides assistance to seniors and caregiver support, abuse prevention and legal services, and intergenerational and volunteer programs.

The US Administration on Aging provides "home and community-based services to millions of older persons through the programs funded under the Older Americans Act."
The National Institute on Aging
"The National Institute on Aging, one of the 27 Institutes and Centers of National Institutes of Health, leads a broad scientific effort to understand the nature of aging and to extend the healthy, active years of life."
