Michelle Grana is the Administrative Director of the Buehler Center on Aging, Health & Society. She graduated from Roosevelt University in May 1994 with honors and was recipient of the Roosevelt University Undergraduate Scholar Award, the Phillip Johnson Memorial Foundation Scholarship and received special honors from the Roosevelt University English Department. Ms. Grana has been active in administrative management since 1988, serving in leadership roles for 12 of the last 16 years. She began her career in Academic Medicine Administration at the University of Chicago in 1996. After working under the section chief of Transplant Surgery for two years, Ms. Grana accepted a position in the Department of Medicine Research Administration and Development Office, where she served as the Senior Manager of Grants and Contracts. In her time at the University of Chicago, Ms. Grana managed the submission of over 400 grant applications per year and supported the faculty in increasing the research support for the department by 87% in the total quantity of awards and 61% increase in the total direct cost amount of awards over her 6-year tenure at the University. Ms. Grana’s remarkable knowledge of grant preparation, her strong command of budget and program management and her comprehensive understanding of government policies and regulations are solid contributions to the Buehler Center on Aging, Health & Society.
Ms. Grana has been active in a variety of professional organizations, which include the Society for Research Administrators and Administrators of Academic Internal Medicine. She has served on important task forces and committees within the university setting, including the Medical Center Physical Plant Working Group, the Occupational Health and Safety Working Group and the multidisciplinary Research in Autoimmune Diseases (RAID) working group at the University of Chicago. We are very excited that Ms. Grana has joined the Buehler Center on Aging, Health & Society and are confident that her skills and passion for her job will contribute to the growth and development of the Center.
