Dr. Edwards is the founder and Director of the Bone Health and Osteoporosis Program at Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation. Her current research interests include topics such as the Vitamin D and its effects on bone, and neuromuscular performance; identification of high-risk individuals for hip fractures; and gait and balance disorders in older adults. She also conducts health services research on women’s attitudes toward osteoporosis and fractures; post fracture care, relevance of education and bone density testing; and the development of an Emergency Department intervention for fragility fractures. Dr. Edwards is the lead author of multiple manuscripts, and she is the recipient of an NIH minority supplement award in 2002, IDPH awards in 1999 and 2001, and a Geriatric Academic Career development Award (GACA) in 2004.
