The Institute for Learning in Retirement


The Institute for Learning in Retirement offers non-credit continuing education courses for mature adults.

The Human Development and Social Policy Program


The Human Development and Social Policy Program, School of Education and Social offers a doctoral program in Human Development and Social Policy.

The Family Institute


The Family Institute at Northwestern University is the Midwest’s oldest and largest center devoted to marital and family therapy, professional education and research. Their focus is to strengthen and heal families through clinical treatment, teaching, and research. The Institute offers a postgraduate clinical fellowship specializing in the treatment of older adults.

The Division of Geriatric Medicine


The Division of Geriatric Medicine, Department of Medicine, Feinberg School of Medicine offers a geriatric medicine fellowship program.

The Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer’s Disease Center


The Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer’s Disease Center (CNADC) is a multidisciplinary organization dedicated to conducting research to discover how the brain coordinates mental functions such as memory, language, attention, and emotion; transferring the benefits of this research to patients with brain diseases that impair cognitive function; and training researchers and clinicians who want to work in this field.

The Multipurpose Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases Center


The Multipurpose Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases Center addresses a broad range of clinical, research, and educational activities at Northwestern University that are related to rheumatologic diseases.

Northwestern Memorial Hospital's Health Learning Center


Located inside Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the Health Learning Center is a health information library that patients, their families and members of the community can use to find information on health issues and care. There are on-line resources as well as books, journals, and audio and video tapes. All services are free of charge.

Program in Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences


Many of the Faculty of the Program in Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences are interested in research on balance and falls in older adults.


Audiology and Hearing Science Concentration


The Audiology and Hearing Sciences concentration in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Program, School of Communication offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and has an Adult Hearing Loss Laboratory focused on personality and socio-demographic factors influencing adjustment to hearing loss among older adults.

Research in Molecular Biology


Research in molecular biology in the Department of Neurobiology and Physiology, Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has a focus on the molecular basis of Alzheimer’s disease, learning, and memory: Research in this laboratory focuses on personality and socio-demographic factors influencing adjustment to hearing loss among older adults.

Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Feinberg School of Medicine, offers a one-year ACGME accredited program in geriatric psychiatry. The program includes experience in the inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings, as well as experience varied nonpsychiatric setting with an older adult population.

The Division of Hematology/Oncology


The Division of Hematology/Oncology, Department of Medicine, Feinberg School of Medicine, offers a combined fellowship in geriatric medicine and hematology/oncology.

Healthy Transitions


Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s Healthy Transitions Program is available to adults over the age of 55 interested in learning about a variety of healthcare issues.

The Wellness Institute


The Wellness Institute provides services, such as exercise classes, nutrition planning, and weight management, for people who would like to take an active part in their health and wellness.
