Undergraduate Study

Minor in African Studies

Northwestern undergraduate students may earn a Minor in African Studies by fulfilling interdisciplinary course requirements. As many as 30 courses relating to Africa are taught each quarter by Africanist faculty across the disciplines, including language instruction in many languages spoken in Africa. (Information about African language programs at Northwestern is available from the Program of African and Asian Languages).

Melville J. Herskovits Undergraduate Research Awards

In collaboration with the Melville J. Herskovits Library of African Studies, the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, and the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education, the Program of African Studies administers the Herskovits Undergraduate Research Award program. Intended to encourage undergraduate research in Northwestern's world-renowned Africana collection of the Herskovits Library, these awards allow selected students to earn credit for research in the collection that will culminate in a final project.

Application Materials and Instructions

PAS encourages undergraduate students to join faculty and visiting scholars in PAS lectures, conferences, film screenings, art exhibits, and community celebrations. Click here for a list of upcoming events.
