Captioned Videos

Whether you are showing a video in class or assigning videos for students to view on their own, it is important to make sure they are captioned.

If you are going to have a student in your class who's accommodations include captioned videos, AccessibleNU will reach out to you and make you aware of this before the start of the quarter to give you enough time to get your videos captioned. The process for captioning is as follows:

  1. Make sure all videos are uploaded to your Canvas course page.
  2. Once they have been uploaded, call the NUIT Help Desk at 847-491-4357 and indicate that you have a Panopto captioning request.
  3. Provide NUIT Help with your course name and number as well as the names of the videos you'd like captioned.
  4. The videos will be captioned within a couple of days and you will be able to access them with captions via Canvas.

Please note, many DVDs and Blurays are already captioned. However, if you have a DVD or Bluray that has not already been captioned, contact Victoria Gettis (847-467-3891) at Faculty Support Services to get help converting the video into a digital format.

If you decide to add a video to the class during the quarter, please follow the process described above to make sure that the video is captioned as soon as possible.
