Program Director, SREE (new position)
As an employee of Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., the director for the Society for Research on Educational Effectiveness (SREE) will collaborate with the president, the editors of the society's journal, and the distinguished researchers who serve as the board of directors to build this rapidly growing organization. Responsibilities include developing a formal business plan, administrative structure, and procedures for the organization, working with a diverse international membership to organize meetings, develop publications, and build the individual and institutional membership base. Responsibilities also include representing the organization to the press, policymakers, and the public.
Salary and Benefits:
Annual salary based on qualifications and experience within the expected range of $70,000-$85,000. Position includes a full suite of fringe benefits as offered by Northwestern University.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Create a business plan for the organization that will include an organizational structure, specific revenue targets, and plans to meet them by expanding SREE individual membership, creation (and recruiting) a new class of institutional members, and proposing new sources of external sources of funding for the organization.
- Develop policies and procedures for the organization, including drafting bylaws and amendments relating to appointment of the board of directors, selection and function of standing committees, membership, and relations with other organizations.
- Develop specifications, designs, and content for SREE websites for the society, annual conferences, and Web publication program. Identify and supervise subcontractors to carry out website development and ongoing website maintenance.
- Develop a publication program that includes three casebooks on education research and additional Web publications, including supervision of a postdoctoral employee. This will include identifying scientific content and developing procedures to create these publications (including a scientific peer-review process).
- Organize an international meeting each year for approximately 300-400 attendees, including selection and supervision of logistics contractors, selecting and contracting with hotels for accommodations and meeting rooms, meals, media services, publicity, and liaison with the scientific and popular press.
- Invite keynote speakers, solicit contributed papers, and develop and manage peer review evaluation process for contributed papers for the annual conference.
- Represent SREE in communications with the press, policymakers, members, and the general public.
- Monitor the operation of the SREE journal, Journal of Research on Educational Effectiveness, and communicate the organization's policies to the editors to ensure that the journal consistently supports the policies and mission of the organization.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidate should hold master's degree in social science and 5 years of experience in an academic environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidate should hold a PhD in the social sciences and have 5 years of experience in an academic environment.
