Proposals Sought for One Book One Northwestern for 2012-2013

The One Book One Northwestern Program seeks book and program proposals for the 2012-13 academic year.

This year’s book is Rebecca Skloot’s “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” and is sponsored by NU Ventures in Biology Education, the Department of African American Studies, Cells to Society and Multicultural Student Affairs.

The One Book One Northwestern planning committee is seeking nominations related to the city of Chicago for the 2012-2013 academic year, although all submissions will be considered. The planning committee also welcomes suggestions from the University community about themes and books for succeeding academic years.

Program proposals should include the book title, a faculty leader and a Northwestern program or department that will host the program next year.  Proposals and questions about the One Book program should be sent to OneBookNomination@northwestern.edu. The deadline for receiving proposals for the 2012-13 academic year is Nov. 11.

The book selected will be distributed to incoming students during the summer. The book should be available in paperback and e-book formats.

The One Book program faculty leader will address incoming students at the President’s Convocation during Wildcat Welcome.

The One Book planning committee, chaired by Eugene Lowe, assistant to the president, includes students, faculty and staff. The committee will review initial proposals and invite a smaller number of full proposals for more detailed consideration before recommending a book to President Schapiro for adoption.
