John Lavine to Step Down

He has served as dean of Medill since 2006

As you know, John Lavine has announced that he is stepping down as Dean of the Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communication on August 31, 2012.  John has served as a professor at Northwestern since 1989 and served as the founding Director of Northwestern’s Media Management Center.  As dean of Medill since 2006, he has provided exceptional leadership for the School.  I look forward to having several opportunities over the next year to recognize John’s significant contributions to both Medill and Northwestern University.

The University soon will begin a national search for his successor. I will be meeting in early October with individual Medill faculty members and others regarding their views of the next leader for the School.  Informed by this input, I will appoint a search committee comprised of Medill faculty, students and staff, as well as others from the University community. This committee will begin its work by the end of October.

Sincerely,
Daniel Linzer
Provost
