Northwestern Goes East

President Schapiro leads trip to India, Singapore and China

Northwestern University leaders took a swing through the East recently, with alumni events, meetings with educational leaders and media interviews in India, Singapore and China.

President Morton Schapiro led a group of Northwestern officials and joined McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science Dean Julio Ottino and Professor Vinayak Dravid in Singapore at meetings and an alumni event that drew approximately 75 people. Alumni events were also held in Mumbai (Bombay), India and in Beijing, China.

The trip also included meetings with the presidents of the top universities in Singapore and in Beijing, one-on-one meetings with Northwestern alumni and a half-dozen media interviews for President Schapiro. In addition, plans called for members of the group to join Northwestern students currently studying in China on a trip to the Great Wall.

The trip is part of Northwestern’s continuing efforts to increase its outreach globally, attracting additional international students and involving alumni who live outside of the U.S.
