Two Free Movie Music Concerts

EVANSTON, Ill. --- The Henry and Leigh Bienen School of Music Student Advisory Board and Northwestern University’s Center for Leadership are co-sponsoring two free concerts featuring music from family movies, including “Peter Pan” and “Jurassic Park.”

Free and open to the public, the outreach programs will take place on the University’s Evanston campus at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, 50 Arts Circle Drive. Both will feature a full orchestra and choir comprised of Northwestern student musicians and vocalists and conducted by Bienen School graduate conducting students. They include:

• Kids Fare, “A Morning of Movie Music,” 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 16, Pick-Staiger Concert Hall. This 45-minute interactive program, for children aged 3 to 8, will feature music excerpts from the films “Harry Potter,” “Peter Pan,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Jurassic Park” and “The Cowboys.” Young audience members will have a chance to conduct a saxophone quartet, join the performers on stage during the concert, and play in an “instrument petting zoo.” Admission is free.

• Student Advisory Board Movie Music Concert, 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21, Pick-Staiger Concert Hall. Bienen graduate students Roderick Cox, Deanna Tham and Frank Watkins will conduct Northwestern students in a 90-minute program of music from popular film scores. The concert will include works from “Harry Potter,” “The Lord of the Rings,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Peter Pan,” “Jurassic Park” and “The Cowboys.” Admission is free.
