EVANSTON, Ill. --- Willie the Wildcat joined Northwestern University President Morton Schapiro at the official opening of the University’s new outdoor ice skating rink Jan. 7.

The rink is located on the east lawn of the Norris University Center, 1999 Campus Drive.

Austin Young, the undergraduate student who suggested the ice rink, also attended the ribbon cutting ceremony. Although it was a frigid night, the event featured music, hot chocolate and skating past 8 p.m.

Weather permitting, the rink will have the following hours: 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday. Skating is free to those with skates, including the general public. Members of the Northwestern community can rent skates at Norris. The cost is $3 for students with a WildCARD, $5 for faculty and staff and $7 for guests of students, faculty and staff.
