Proposals Sought for One Book, One Northwestern for 2011-12


Suggestions with book title, faculty leader and host department due Nov. 29

The One Book, One Northwestern program, which in 2010-2011 features Tracy Kidder’s Mountains Beyond Mountains and is hosted by the Center for Civic Engagement, seeks book program nominations for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Eugene Lowe, assistant to the president, said that the University is seeking suggestions that should include the book title, a faculty leader, and a Northwestern program or department that will host the program next year.  Proposals should be sent to OneBookNomination @ northwestern.edu by Monday, November 29.

The book selected will be distributed to incoming students during the summer. The book should be available in paperback and e-book formats. 

The One Book program faculty leader will address incoming students at the president’s convocation during Wildcat Welcome.

The One Book Program Planning Committee, after reviewing preliminary book proposals will invite a smaller number of full proposals for more detailed consideration. The One Book Program Planning Committee will recommend a book title to President Schapiro for adoption.
