Performances of 68th annual production to be held Jan. 29 and 30

EVANSTON, Ill. --- "Parade," a Tony Award-winning musical based on the true-life story of a Jewish factory manger wrongly accused of murder in the Deep South, will be performed Jan. 29 and 30 when Northwestern University students present the 68th annual Dolphin Show.

The Dolphin Show, one of the nation's largest student-produced musicals, will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, and 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at Cahn Auditorium, 600 Emerson St., on the University's Evanston campus.

Written by playwright Alfred Uhry with music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown, "Parade" tells the story of the 1913 trial of Brooklyn-born Leo Frank, who was accused of the murder of 13-year-old factory worker Mary Phagan. The flagrant anti-Semitism surrounding Frank's case led to the creation of the Anti-Defamation League.

"Parade," which was first produced on Broadway in 1998 and won six Drama Desk awards in addition to Tony awards for best book and best score, is directed by Northwestern senior Scott Weinstein and produced by students Zachary Baer, Tom Casserly and Jamie Lynn White.

The Dolphin Show, which this year involves more than 150 Northwestern undergraduates, evolved from a 1940s swim team fundraiser to an annual professional-caliber musical production. The students work on every aspect of the production as stage actors, singers and dancers to behind-the-scenes stage crew members, marketing managers and fundraisers.
