Haiti Teach-in Tonight


Northwestern organizes a number of events to help Haiti

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Among the Northwestern efforts to help Haiti, a teach-in will take place tonight on the history, politics and culture of a country in crisis.

The teach-in, titled "Haiti: History, Politics, and Culture of a Country in Crisis," will take place at 7 p.m. tonight in Swift Hall, room 107, 2029 Sheridan Road, Evanston.

Open to the public, the event will be moderated by Sherwin Bryant, assistant professor of African American studies and history at Northwestern. University panelists include Joan Sherman, lecturer in the gender studies department, Doris Garraway, associate professor of French, Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor, graduate student in African American studies and Mark Hauser, assistant professor of anthropology. Alie Kabba, from the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, will also join the panel.

The event is cosponsored by "NU Stands With Haiti," the department of African American studies, Latin American and Caribbean studies, the Latina/o studies program, the department of French and Italian and African American Student Affairs.
