Thrilling Outback Comeback Falls Short

The Northwestern Wildcats fell behind early in the 2010 Outback Bowl but rallied twice in the second half from 14 points down to the Auburn Tigers before finally succumbing 38-35 in overtime.

Senior quarterback Mike Kafka led the way by throwing 78 passes for 532 yards, with four touchdowns and five interceptions. Kafka also carried the ball 20 times, with one touchdown.

On their lone overtime possession, the Wildcats drove the ball inside the Auburn 5-yard line before senior wide receiver Zeke Markshausen was stopped just short of the end zone on fourth down to seal the loss.

Despite the loss, Northwestern's valiant comeback gave Wildcat fans much to be proud of. The 11,000-strong contingent of purple-clad supporters made the most of their trip to Tampa by exploring local tourist attractions, attending official bowl game events and participating in Northwestern Alumni Association activities.
