Dona Cordero Appointed Assistant Provost for Faculty Development

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Dona Cordero has been appointed assistant provost for faculty development at Northwestern University while retaining her current position of director of change management.

She will report jointly to the associate provost for faculty affairs and the associate provost for academic initiatives/associate vice president for change management, it was announced by Provost Daniel Linzer.

Cordero joined Northwestern in 2000 as director of change management in the newly formed Office of Change Management. During her tenure she has worked with deans, vice presidents, directors and area managers in undertaking organizational change initiatives such as the Integration of Student Financial Services, the restructuring of administrative functions within The Graduate School, and many other school and central administration-based efforts. She recently led the creation of the Northwestern University Best Practices Forum and is completing an assessment of institutional diversity efforts for the Office of the Provost.

Her new role extends this work to enhance support for the Office of the Provost in leading new initiatives, as well as collaborating with academic and administrative units, to strengthen efforts of inclusion of faculty and students at Northwestern University. In her new capacity Cordero will work closely with the Faculty Diversity Committee and the planning group for the University's ADVANCE program to aid in the recruitment, hiring, development and retention of excellent faculty in all departments and serve as a resource providing support for faculty.

The role will also help research and develop "best practices" to assist departments and search committees in implementing inclusive faculty recruitment activities. Linzer said, "Given the centrality of faculty recruitment and hiring at Northwestern, I anticipate that this role will also serve to foster further collaboration with and among other University units like the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access to strengthen the institutional environment for women and underrepresented minorities, including both students and faculty. "
