June 7 Lurie Cancer Walk and Stem Cell Donor Registration

By Marla Paul
CHICAGO --- The 16th Annual Cancer Survivors’ Celebration & Walk will be Sunday, June 7. The walk is the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University’s salute to cancer survivors and the strides made in cancer treatment and research. The celebration begins at 8 a.m. and the walk steps off at 9 a.m. at the corner of Columbus and Balbo Drives in Grant Park.

Be the Match, formerly the National Marrow Donor Program, will register potential new donors on-site, free of charge, as the Lurie Cancer Center honors stem cell transplant donors and recipients throughout the day.  The Lurie Cancer Center is working closely with Children's Memorial Hospital to register much-needed donors.

The four-mile, non-competitive walk along Chicago’s lakefront is expected to draw close to 4,000 participants. The walk honors survivors and all those whose lives have been touched by cancer. It also recognizes the achievements of the Lurie Cancer Center’s physicians, scientists and health professionals whose work is inspired by the courage they witness daily.

A day of festivities for the family will include an opportunity to sign the Dedication Wall, refreshments, music and entertainment. No pledges are required.  The $15 registration fee includes a t-shirt and refreshments. Registration is $25 on the day of the walk.  Register online at www.cancer.northwestern.edu.  For additional information call 312-695-1304.
