Northwestern Baseball Hits U.S. Cellular Field

The Northwestern baseball team defeated Notre Dame by a score of 5-1 in a game played under the lights at U.S. Cellular Field.

By Matt Paolelli

The Northwestern baseball team lived out every baseball player's childhood fantasy on April 15 when they took on Notre Dame at U.S. Cellular Field, home of the Chicago White Sox. The larger venue gave the players an opportunity to experience the thrill of playing in a Major League stadium, while Northwestern students, alumni and fans were able to root, root, root for the home team from the best seats in the house. Students involved in the Northwestern News Network produced an online telecast of the game and served as play-by-play announcers, on-field reporters and scoreboard controllers.

Northwestern did its part and collected a win, defeating Notre Dame by a score of 5-1. Senior catcher Tony Vercelli belted two home runs to seal the victory.
