Find a Hidden Gem at Northwestern University Library Book Sale

EVANSTON, Ill. --- A 1920 edition of F. Scott Fitzgerald's "This Side of Paradise" will be among the 7,000-plus books, CDs, DVDs and periodicals available for purchase when Northwestern University Library opens its Library Book Sale to the Northwestern community Wednesday, April 29. The book sale will be open to the general public Thursday, April 30; Friday, May 1; and Monday, May 4.

The book sale for Northwestern students, faculty, staff and alumni with a valid Northwestern ID starts at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 29. Sale hours on all four days are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The annual book sale – a popular event with book collectors -- will take place in Ver Steeg Lounge of Northwestern University Library, 1970 Campus Drive, on the Evanston campus. In the past, serious collectors and book professionals have lined up hours in advance to take advantage of the best selection.

Until May 4 -- the day that all materials go on sale for clearance -- hardcover books will be priced at $3 each; quality paperbacks at $2; and mass market paperbacks at 50 cents each. Monday, May 4, books will sell for $1 a bag.

Included in the sale will be turn-of-the-19th-century editions of novels by American critic and author William Dean Howells, a substantial collection of books on Latin American, European and African history and, as always, the random gems that will put a smile on the face of some lucky collector, somewhere. Among such gems could be a 1906 edition of "Pugilistica: One Hundred Forty Four Years of British Boxing."
