Funding Available for Bionanomedicine Projects and Personnel at Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. --- The Institute for BioNanotechnology in Medicine (IBNAM) at Northwestern University seeks applications for two grant programs, one for innovative exploratory research projects and the other for support of young researchers in bioengineering.

The IBNAM-Baxter Research Incubator Program makes one-year awards of up to $50,000 for interdisciplinary nanoscience research projects with the potential for great impact on medicine. The program provides seed funding to Northwestern faculty members to launch exploratory and high-risk research that is likely to lead to external funding.

The IBNAM-Baxter Early Career Development Award in Bioengineering provides up to two years of funding for postdoctoral fellows working in the field of bioengineering. The research must be interdisciplinary and dedicated to accelerating medical discovery and scientific collaboration in clinical medicine, engineering, physical sciences and life sciences.

Applicants can propose projects that link applications for incubator grants and early career awards. This will allow researchers to expand the scope of their work and maximize the impact of the proposed research.

For both programs, IBNAM is particularly interested in projects that will utilize the institute's facilities in the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center.

The IBNAM-Baxter Healthcare Corporation partnership began in 2002, with the first grants for both programs awarded the following year. Baxter funds the programs, which are administrated by IBNAM.
