Northwestern Programming to Increase on Big Ten Network

EVANSTON, Ill. --- News, fine arts and other programs from Northwestern University will be shown on the Big Ten Network three times a week at regular times starting next week.

Starting Tuesday, April 7, a Northwestern University-produced program will be shown at 7 p.m. every Tuesday and then repeated at 4 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. Friday on the Big Ten Network. The April programming will open with the Alice Millar Birthday Concert recorded live in Alice Millar chapel in February, featuring members of the symphony orchestra and chapel choir under the direction of Stephen Alltop, senior lecturer in music performance studies.

Also airing in April will be News@Northwestern, the University's lively news magazine that takes a quick look at a variety of areas across the University. This episode of News@Northwestern features segments on the University Library's special collections, the Alzheimer's Buddy program developed by the Feinberg School of Medicine and NUVention, a new joint program providing students an opportunity to develop medial innovations.

"The increased time available for non-athletic programming and a regular day and time for the programs to air will enable us to showcase more Northwestern activities and programs," said Alan Cubbage, vice president for university relations. University Relations is producing the University's non-athletic programming. "This is a great opportunity to reach alumni and other Northwestern friends around the country with news about the University."

The Big Ten Network is the first nationally distributed network dedicated to covering one of the premier collegiate conferences in the country. With approximately 350 live events and non-athletic programming provided by the universities, the network operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Northwestern has been the leader in providing non-athletic programming for the Big Ten Network, with more than 20 hours of programs in the first year of the BTN and nearly that many planned for this year.
