Former Millar Organ Scholar to Launch New Concert Series Oct. 6

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Northwestern University's Alice Millar Chapel is introducing a series of monthly lunchtime concerts beginning Oct. 6 with a performance by guest organist Nathan LeMahieu, a former Millar Organ Scholar.

The Monday Music Recital Series concerts will be held from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. on the first Monday of every month on the Evanston campus at Alice Millar Chapel, 1870 Sheridan Road.

The concerts are free and attendees are welcome to bring their lunch.

The concert series will continue through June of next year and primarily feature the chapel's 100-rank Aeolian-Skinner organ and an array of other instrumentalists, including the Northwestern University Baroque Music Ensemble.

The newest component of the Millar Chapel's musical programming was organized by Margaret Wilson, organist and musical associate at Millar Chapel.

LeMahieu, a Northwestern alumnus, is the Minister of Music at the First Baptist Church of Oak Park, Ill. He previously held the position of Organ Scholar at the University of Notre Dame's Basilica of the Sacred Heart in South Bend, Ind., where he regularly conducted the Liturgical Choir for national television.

LeMahieu has performed in recitals and master classes throughout the United States as well as in Germany and the Netherlands. He has been the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships such as the E. Power Biggs Fellowship of the Organ Historical Society, the Undergraduate Award of the North Shore Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and the Immanuel Lutheran Organ Prize.
