June 2008 Theatre/Dance Calendar

EVANSTON, Ill. --- This spring, Northwestern University's department of theatre and the Theatre and Interpretation Center will present their final stage and dance productions of the 2007-08 Mainstage theatre season on the Evanston campus.

The Theatre and Interpretation Center's 2007-08 Mainstage theatre season will conclude with Eric Overmyer's comedy "On The Verge" (May 23 to June 1), directed by Northwestern theatre faculty member Cindy Gold. "On the Verge" follows three Victorian women as they travel forward in time to 1950s America. Performances will take place in the Ethel M. Barber Theater, 30 Arts Circle Drive, as noted below.

The Theatre and Interpretation Center also will present the final production in its 2007-08 Studio Season. "Amadeus," by Peter Shaffer, will be directed by master of fine arts director George Cederquist. "Amadeus" is loosely based on the lives of the composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri and depicts the struggle to find faith in God when living in an Age of Reason. Performances will take place May 30 and 31 in the Hal and Martha Hyer Wallis Theater, 1949 Campus Drive, as noted below.

The Dance Program will conclude its season June 7 with the New Movement Project Dance Concert, "Move Against the Clock." Featuring choreography by Dance Ensemble participants and performed by Northwestern students, pieces range in style from ballet and hip-hop to lyrical and modern. The performance will be held in the Marjorie Ward Marshall Dance Center, Ballroom Theater, 10 Arts Circle Drive.

"On the Verge," by Eric Overmyer, 8 p.m. Friday, May 23; 8 p.m. Saturday, May 24; 2 p.m. Sunday, May 25; 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 28; 8 p.m. Thursday, May 29; 8 p.m. Friday, May 30; 8 p.m. Saturday, May 31; and 2 p.m. Sunday, June 1; Ethel M. Barber Theater, 30 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston campus. An amusing and scandalous romp, directed by Northwestern faculty member Cindy Gold, this comedy follows three Victorian ladies as they travel forward in time to 1950s America. With pithy dialogue, these ladies use wit, charm and intelligence as their weapons of choice as they share tales of their past adventures. Single tickets are $25 for the general public; $22 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty and staff; and $10 for full-time students and children.

"Move Against the Clock" Dance Concert, 8 and 10 p.m. Saturday, June 7, Marjorie Ward Marshall Dance Center, Ballroom Theater, 10 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston campus. The New Movement Project and the Northwestern University Dance Program will present two informal performances of choreography created in only two weeks by dance majors. The performances will feature a variety of works, dance styles and student choreographers. Limited seating is on a first-come, first seated basis. Admission is free.
