Ann Adams Named to Northwestern Research Integrity Post

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Ann K. Adams has rejoined Northwestern University as Associate Vice President for Research Integrity and Director of the Office for Research Integrity.

The appointment, effective Feb. 1, was announced by Joseph T. Walsh, vice president for research.

"Adams will lead the Office for Research Integrity in its ongoing efforts to ensure that Northwestern's culture embraces exemplary integrity and compliance in its research activities; to uphold our highest standards for scientific rigor; to provide faculty, students, and staff with the most straightforward processes and most useful sources of information for responsible research administration; and to serve in an advisory capacity to the research community on a wide range of compliance issues," Walsh said. Over the next few months, she will work with Timothy Fournier, whom she succeeds as Director of the Office for Research Integrity, as he transitions to his senior leadership position at Northwestern's new campus in Qatar.

Adams had been serving as an Associate General Counsel at The George Washington University, managing the legal aspects of a broad spectrum of higher education issues, including research and compliance. Some of her key responsibilities included responding to federal government inquiries and investigations arising from activities in sponsored research, assisting in the development of policies and procedures to enhance compliance across the University, and promoting a culture of compliance by partnering closely with the University's many offices involved in research administration.

Before joining George Washington, Adams was an Associate General Counsel for Northwestern's Office of General Counsel from 1998-2003 where she had a diverse portfolio of responsibilities, including research, technology transfer and other intellectual property matters. Prior to joining Northwestern in 1998, she was an Associate with the law firm of Sidley & Austin.
