Epidemiology/Biostatistics Degree Offered

The Feinberg School of Medicine Department of Preventive Medicine, in conjunction with the Graduate School, now offers a master of science degree in epidemiology/biostastitics.

The full-time program, completed in five or six quarters, emphasizes a combination of coursework and guided practical experience to provide students with the skills to apply epidemiologic and biostatistical methodology to the design, conduct, and analysis of population studies.

The thesis track prepares students to become independent investigators and focuses on integrating epidemiologic concepts with quantitative methods for disease assessment and on identifying strategies to reduce or prevent health problems. This track is for applicants who already possess a PhD degree.

The consultative or nonthesis track prepares students for work as statistical consultants or data analysts and focuses on application of biostatistical and computer methods to medical and biological data. Students in this track will acquire a thorough background in theoretical and applied biostatistics and data management.
