Joseph Stiglitz to Lecture at Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Economist Joseph Stiglitz, University Professor at Columbia University and chair of Columbia's Committee on Global Thought, will give a lecture Sept. 28 at Northwestern University.

His talk, “Making Globalization Work,” will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Owen L. Coon Forum in the Donald P. Jacobs Center, 2001 Sheridan Road, Evanston. The lecture is sponsored by the Office of the President.

Stiglitz, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2001 for his analyses of markets with asymmetric information, was a member of the Council of Economic Advisers from 1993-95 during the Clinton Administration and its chair from 1995-97. He became Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of the World Bank from 1997-2000.

In his new book, “Making Globalization Work,” Stiglitz offers an imaginative, practical vision for making globalization the equalizing force it was always meant to be for nations around the globe, rich and poor.
