Art Exhibit Honors Cancer Survivors

CHICAGO --- A touring art exhibit that pays honor to the 1 million colorectal cancer survivors will visit Northwestern University's Chicago campus this summer.

“Snapshot of Survival: Art Exhibition for People Living with Colorectal Cancer -- and Their Families and Friends” will be on display in the lobby of the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center, 303 E. Superior St., Chicago, from Aug. 17-31.

The exhibition, conducted by Gilda's Club Worldwide, was created to highlight the widespread impact of colorectal cancer. Advances in prevention, screening and treatment have increased chances of survival for thousands of colorectal cancer patients. Although this illness is often presented in terms of data and statistics, “Snapshot of Survival” invited people living with the disease, and their families and friends, to express cancer survival through art.

Gilda's Club Worldwide, a cancer support community where people whose lives have been affected by cancer can come together for social and emotional support, conducted art workshops through the month of April. More than 50 pieces were submitted for consideration for the exhibition.
