Buehler Center Hosts Events on Healthy Aging

CHICAGO --- The Buehler Center on Aging at Northwestern University will host an active aging health fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a conference on “The Best and Worst of Long-term Care” from 1 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Monday, May 22, at the Feinberg Pavilion, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, 251 E. Huron St., third floor.  Both events are free of charge and open to the public.

The health fair will feature experts on aging and organizations and businesses that focus on helping people live active older lives. Among the scheduled exhibitors are representatives of several retirement and assisted-living communities, home health care and palliative care programs, insurance associations and Chicago health care providers who specialize in care of aging patients.

The fair will feature medical screening for blood pressure and bone density, raffles and gifts. Short films on the aging body and soul will be shown all day in the Pritzker Auditorium.

Speakers at the health conference, which begins at 1 p.m., will include Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan; Arnold L. Widen, M.D., medical director of the Office of the Illinois Attorney General; Rose Marie Fagan, executive director of the Pioneer Network; and physicians and geriatric specialists from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. A question-and-answer period will follow the conference.
