IPR Lecture Subject Is Earnings Gap/Economic Security

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Heidi Hartmann, president of the Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR), will deliver a Northwestern University distinguished lecture on “The Earnings Gap and Women’s Long-Term Economic Security.”

Hartmann will deliver the 2005-06 Institute for Policy Research (IPR) Distinguished Public Policy Lecture from 4 to 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at Northwestern, the McCormick Tribune Center Forum, 1870 Campus Drive. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Hartmann is the founder of the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, a scientific research organization in Washington, D.C., that is dedicated to informing and stimulating debate on public policy issues of critical importance to women and families.

She lectures and publishes widely on women, economics and public policy and frequently testifies before the U.S. Congress. “Still A Man’s Labor Market: The Long-Term Earnings Gap” (IWPR Report, 2004) is among the numerous reports she has co-authored, and she is the co-editor of the Journal of Women, Politics & Policy.

In 1994, Hartmann received a MacArthur Fellowship Award for her work in the field of women and economics. She is vice chair of the National Council of Women’s Organizations and a research professor at The George Washington University.

Previously, Hartmann was on the faculty of Rutgers University and the New School for Social Research, and she worked at the National Research Council/National Academy of Sciences.

Founded in 1968 at Northwestern University, the Institute for Policy Research is an interdisciplinary public policy research institute. IPR’s mission is to stimulate and support excellent social science research on significant public policy issues and to disseminate the findings widely to students, scholars, policymakers and the public.
