Zunger to Give Cohen Lectures

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Alex Zunger, an Institute Research Fellow at the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory, will deliver the Jerome B. Cohen Distinguished Lecture  Series in  Materials Science and Engineering.

The public is invited to attend the free lectures, which honor the late Jerry Cohen, who was dean of the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science for 13 years. The schedule is as follows: “Quantum Architecture of Novel Solids,” 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, Lecture Room 3, Technological Institute; “Understanding Semiconductor Nanostructure,” 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, L211, Tech; and “The Inverse Band Structure Idea: Given a Target Property, Find the Structure,” 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, L361, Tech.

Zunger, who received his Ph.D. from Tel-Aviv University and did post-doctoral training at Northwestern, is a condensed matter theorist who conducts research on quantum-mechanical theory of semiconductors and photon energy conversion. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the author or co-author of more than 450 journal articles.
