2001

  • Northwestern commemorates founders' first meeting by dedicating a historical marker at the corner of Clark and Lake streets in Chicago's loop.

2002

  • The McCormick Tribune Center is completed.
  • NU Debate Society wins first place at the National Debate Tournament.

2005

  • The women's lacrosse team wins its first of four straight NCAA titles.
  • The Ford Motor Company Engineering Design Center is completed.

2006

  • U.S. Senator Barack Obama gives the commencement address.

2008

  • Northwestern begins offering journalism and communication degrees at its new branch campus in Qatar.
  • Northwestern's research grants reach $438.8 million, the highest in the University's history.
  • The Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center is completed.
  • The School of Music is renamed the Henry and Leigh Bienen School of Music in honor of the President and his wife.

2009

  • Morton O. Schapiro becomes University President.
